Kashbah Ait Abbou 1837 -
Ouarzazate, Morocco

With its 25 meters high, the Kasbah of Ait Abbou is the highest kasbah in Morocco with a breathtaking view of the palm grove of Skoura.
Given its geographical location, the kasbah is an important stage in the circuit of the kasbahs of Mgouna, Dades and Todgha.
Fortified residence of the Sheikh family, it had the role of controlling the palm grove of Skoura and its access routes.
The Kasbah Aït Abou was built in 1837. It served as a fortified residence for the family of the sheikh, but also had the role of controlling the oasis of Skoura and its access routes, to face the attacks of the tribes enemies of the High Atlas and the desert, to protect the caravans from attacks by brigands and looters and to supply the
inhabitants.
With its 25 meters high, the Kasbah of Ait Abbou, current property of the Mafhoum heirs, would be the highest kasbah in Morocco and the palm grove of Skoura in particular, thus dominating the entire palm grove and offering a surprising panoramic view of a landscape picturesque captivating.
The kasbah of Aït Abbou was raised at the beginning of the XXth century.
To the two original levels were added two others, as well as a terrace dominated only by one of the towers, from the top of which you can see the entire palm grove. This evolution is visible in the shape of the galleries which surround the central patio: rectangular on the ground floor and on the second floor as it corresponds to the outbuildings intended for animals or service, and in the shape of an arc for the first and third, reserved housing for the owners of the fortress and their guests.
